How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Home?

Regular tidying keeps a home looking good, but deep cleaning is what keeps it healthy. Here's a room-by-room guide to how often it actually needs doing.

A bright, freshly deep-cleaned kitchen

Most homes get a regular tidy every week or two — surfaces wiped, floors done, bathrooms freshened. That keeps a home looking good. But there’s a second layer of cleaning that routine visits don’t fully reach: the build-up inside appliances, behind fixtures, in grout lines and along baseboards. That’s deep cleaning, and it’s what keeps a home genuinely healthy, not just tidy.

So how often does each part of your home actually need it?

Kitchen: every 1–3 months

The kitchen works hardest. Grease builds up on cabinet fronts and range hoods, the oven accumulates carbon, and the fridge needs a proper interior clean to stay hygienic. A deep clean every one to three months keeps it sanitary and pleasant to cook in.

Bathrooms: every 1–2 months

Humidity makes bathrooms a hotspot for soap scum, limescale and mildew. Deep cleaning the grout, shower glass and tile every one to two months prevents staining and keeps the air fresher.

Bedrooms and living areas: every 3–6 months

These rooms look clean longer, but dust settles behind furniture, on vents and along baseboards — and that’s exactly what affects indoor air quality. A deeper pass every three to six months — using microfibre that traps dust rather than scattering it — makes a noticeable difference for anyone with allergies.

Whole-home resets: seasonally

Twice a year — typically spring and fall — a full whole-home deep clean is worth it. It’s also the ideal first service before switching to a regular maintenance plan.

The healthy-home takeaway

Regular cleaning maintains; deep cleaning resets. If it’s been more than a few months since your home had a thorough, detail-focused clean — especially inside appliances and around grout — it’s probably due. And using non-toxic, eco-certified products means you’re improving your indoor air at the same time, not trading a clean home for a lungful of chemicals.
