1. The size of your home

This is the biggest driver, full stop. More square footage — and more bathrooms in particular, since they’re the most time-intensive rooms — means more time on site. Most reputable cleaners quote by the size and layout of the home rather than a flat “per hour” figure, because the number of bedrooms and bathrooms predicts the work far better than a clock does.

2. The type of clean

Not all cleans are the same amount of work:

• A regular clean maintains an already-cared-for home — surfaces, floors, kitchen and bathrooms — and is the most economical.
